Nearly 40 years after the Gulf Freeway and Loop 610 first crossed, state transportation officials are preparing to build two of the three missing connections between them.
Construction of a new ramp connecting eastbound Loop 610 to northbound I-45 South is expected to start in January 2014. Officials were scheduled to open bids on the $49.7 million project this week. A few months later, work will start on a separate, $29 million project to connect the Gulf Freeway’s southbound lanes to Loop 610 westbound.
