Dick’s Sporting Goods is bringing more than 185 jobs to Friendswood with the planned opening of a store at Baybrook Mall on Oct. 21.
Recent voter approval of an increase in Friendswood ISD’s property tax rate will generate roughly $2.5 million in additional revenue for salary increases for teachers and other district employees, with $690,000 set aside for capital improvement projects, district officials say.

Friendswood City Council, in a special meeting on Monday, voted 5-1, with Carl Gustafson opposed, to again call a bond election for November 5 due to changes in the original ordinance.
The city council called for the bond referendum to be placed on the November 5 ballot during the city council’s August 12 meeting.
Friendswood City Council on Monday voted 2-4, with only Billy Enochs and Jim Hill voting in favor of approval, to deny a motion to place a sales tax election referendum on the November 5 election ballot.
