Replacing Senator Ellis proves to be ultimate insider game for Houston Democrats (Quorum Report)

HOUSTON – With time running short before Democrats choose the person who will take the seat being vacated by veteran Sen. Rodney Ellis in the Texas Senate, all four candidates vying for the job made their pitch to the diehard party faithful on Wednesday afternoon.

The four candidates were practicing the ultimate style of retail politics, visiting one-on-one with party activists and speaking in a town hall-style event at the Harris County Democratic Party’s headquarters in a midrise building along North Loop 610. Precinct chairs from this county and part of neighboring Fort Bend County – about 85 people in total – will vote Saturday to place one of these names on the November ballot: Rep. Senfronia Thompson, Rep. Borris Miles, former Houston Controller Ron Green, and James Joseph, who has never previously held public office.
