The presidential elections are bearing down on Texas, which will play a real role this year in deciding who’ll lead Republicans into the general-election battle for the White House.

The GOP nomination has mostly been settled by the time it reaches Texas in recent history, but this time the crowded race and early March 1 primary is making the state a player.
