GALVESTON – As a part of its budget discussions this past summer, Council reviewed the impact of proposed water and sewer rate increases including a breakdown of monthly base fees as well as volume fees based on usage for residential, non-residential, and sprinkler/irrigation account holders. On August 27th, Council passed an ordinance codifying rate increases to off-set the higher cost of water by Galveston’s sole supplier (the Gulf Coast Water Authority, GCWA) and to provide funding for capital projects specifically related to the restoration and maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure. These presentations began on July 9th prior to the City’s review of the water rate table where a clerical error was identified; this error did not trigger and is not a component of the water and sewer rates increase.
