Some Houstonians associate the suburbs with landing a better deal on a brand-new house, but others opting to live in the outskirts are actually seeking historic dwellings.

Take Montgomery County, a 1,077-square-mile area about 28 miles north of Houston where new residents are rebuilding old homes instead of committing to new constructions.
