Galveston OKs $11M cruise port expansion (Houston Chronicle)

One of two cruise terminals would be expanded at Galveston’s port under an $11 million contract awarded Monday by the Galveston Wharves Board.

Port Director Michael Mierzwa said the expansion, by The Woodlands-based Webber LLC, is needed to accommodate larger cruise ships. Terminal 2 would be expanded from 90,000 to 150,000 square feet to accommodate ships carrying more than 4,000 passengers, double the number carried by ships for which the current terminals were designed to handle, he said.
