The study area for the Northwest Mobility Study is bounded on the east by IH 45, on the west by US 290, on the north by BW 8, and on the south by IH 610. The purpose of this study is to identify near and long range projects which promote better mobility by considering multi-modal classification for streets within the study area which are inclusive of pedestrian, bicycle, transit, vehicular and other modes of transportation. The study area is approximately 41,227 acres and has a population of 234,415 in 2010. A number of thoroughfares currently do not extend across the study area due to existing land uses, railroads, bayous, etc. Additionally, the land uses and typology of development vary throughout the study area.
